Newt - "It worked this time, but what about the next?"
Lenka - "We need to get better at this."

SATURDAY:
Newt - "We cannot afford to panic. Don't forget what's at stake, here."
Magnus - "I didn't come to congratulate you, I came to ask about your methods."

SUNDAY:
Newt + Max - "Oh of course you want the one that sounds the most dangerous. You never learn, do you?"

MONDAY:
Newt + Caren - "I apologize for Newton, he doesn't think before acting."
Newt + Mary - "I didn't know you could knit. Full of hidden talents, aren't you?"

Mary - "Listen, you can't go around repeating the word Schwanz."

Newt + Jacopo - "Your purposes. What is your purpose?"

Newt - "How were we supposed to know they had some sort of romantic thing going on?"

Newt - "It's easier to lie when you're telling a half-truth."

Undine - "It was the killer's choice to do this. It's not your fault."
Akira - "At this point, I suppose a lot of secrets are making the rounds."
Kaiba - "How much did you read into Setz's notes? Do you believe him?"

Mary - "Whatever else you may have done, I think that in the end you'll do what you think is right."
Newt - "It flies in the face of everything we've learned here."

Week 5 | Super Secret Message for the Conductor

[It's hand-written and formal as all hell, sorry not sorry.]

Dear Mr./Mrs./Mx. Conductor,

I have been informed by another player that it is possible to request special permission to remain awake during curfew, without the intention to perform an Erasure. I was told to speak with you specifically on this matter, as you had granted it previously.

This is therefore a formal request to be allowed such a privilege for this Thursday night/Friday morning. I fear my partner and I may soon be targets for Erasure ourselves, and only want the opportunity for self-defense.

Additionally, or alternately, in the case my request cannot be granted, I have a few questions about your involvement in this game.

1. What are you attempting to prove? If you cannot or do not wish to answer this, then let me revise: are you trying to prove something about our actions, or our reasons for acting? Is it about us, the players, at all?

2. Are you someone I have spoken to before? Or are you an outside observer only?

3. What are the consequences of running into the game's time limit versus "winning" by Erasing all of the Reapers? Will anyone still be chosen to return to life if we accomplish the former instead?

He almost died. Newt almost died. What a day. His heart hasn't stopped pounding, despite his composure at the trial. It's all kinda worn out now.]

[After having to face the body he helped make and also re-break his fucking wrist, Hermann is feeling pretty bad! He's limped off to throw up, this time in the italian restaurant bathroom because mcd's is for scrubs.

He's so glad he's done with acting but actually, he isn't. He has to keep this up all through the trial tomorrow, with those weeping, vengeful people. He had so much confidence this morning, that this was the right path. That this is what he had to do, and that it was justified. A murderer is a small sacrifice for the lives of billions.

Now he isn't so sure.]

[Hermann is maybe moping??? He's set up shop in Wildkat after the trial, just sitting at a table by himself. He's not even eating or anything, though he is sort of idly flipping through his rulebook from time to time.

[Hermann retreats after Dahlia's confession, not really wanting to stick around and see the tearful goodbyes. He heads back to he and Newt's room, but he isn't tired and he can't sit still despite the ache in his leg from being up and about and shouting at people all day.

Whenever Newt returns, he's pacing back and forth, restless.]

[Anyway, after the trial Hermann is retreating to think about his choices. He really just argued to send two innocent people to their permadeaths instead of one, and even if he doesn't think he was wrong, it's still... A Lot.

He can't go apologize to them yet because that would mean facing them. So instead he stops when he sees Mary alone, and goes to talk to her.]

Mary, I'm sorry you had to see that today.
