gotta do sum talk
[Hermann retreats after Dahlia's confession, not really wanting to stick around and see the tearful goodbyes. He heads back to he and Newt's room, but he isn't tired and he can't sit still despite the ache in his leg from being up and about and shouting at people all day.
Whenever Newt returns, he's pacing back and forth, restless.]
Whenever Newt returns, he's pacing back and forth, restless.]

no subject
Of course, Newt is one thousand percent not expecting Hermann to be in the room when he uses their single keycard to open up the locked hotel room.]
Uh? [He's squinting something fierce.] How'd you get in here?
no subject
How-? Oh, this. [He produces the pack of chalk from his jacket.] The psych.
no subject
...You're telling me you can teleport through locked doors?
no subject
[How else was he supposed to visually demonstrate teleportation???]
And I can, apparently. [Come to think of it, he accidentally teleported into the coffee shop the other day from the street.] When I realized you had the key, I thought it was worth a try.
no subject
Huh. That's... certainly an advantage. [He says, ominously.] So, uh, what'd you think about all of that?
no subject
I believe... that we did what was necessary. If we'd let them all have their way, more of us would have died for nothing.
[It's completely impossible to guess that he's been thinking about this for the past hour and repeating this mantra to himself over and over again.]
I think we were fortunate that this one was caused by a personal grudge. I doubt we'll be so lucky next time.
no subject
It's not like there's a lot of opportunity for personal grudges, anyway. Most of us are just meeting for the first time. [Then again, people might start to develop grudges or something? Humans are weird.]
Look, uh... About that. Doing what's necessary. If it does come down to us needing to take a more, um, active role in all this, we should probably start thinking ahead. This one was good to get the lay of the land and all, but we, uh.
[Were weirdly in sync??? What the hell was up with that?]
If people see us agreeing on big picture stuff, they'll be more likely to think we're in cahoots down the road, is what I'm saying.
no subject
So you think we should argue with each other more often? [Don't they already?] Or should one of us pretend to go along with all the altruism? What if we're accidentally too persuasive, and we get everyone killed?
no subject
[It's like life or death situations make them come together and focus on facts, or something??]
There will be other stuff that comes up along those lines. Stuff that isn't just altruism versus logic.
no subject
Hm. I see what you mean, yes. So unless the situation is more dire, we should keep our agreements mostly to ourselves.
[He can't help but feel like this is a step in the wrong direction, but, you know, greater good or whatever.]
no subject
[He's glad they continue to be on the same page, even if this is weird. Here's hoping this good luck holds out.]
So, uh, along those lines... I've been thinking. If we're gonna erase someone, we have to do our homework. I don't want to erase someone with, like, stuff to go back to, y'know? Like if a bunch of people are depending on them, like our situation.
no subject
[Not a bad plan. Some of them are from other universes, but it seems stupid to save the world at their point in time, only to have it end later. Or earlier.]
Clarke Griffin, then. We can't erase her.
no subject
Yeah, plus I like Clarke. And I wouldn't feel right killing a teenage girl, y'know? [That... sure was a sentence.] Erase, I mean.
[He flips to her page in the profiles and writes a zero next to her name. He does the same with Mary.]
I don't know about Alex's, uh, station in life or whatever, but she's out too. So is Lenka, since he's Mary's partner... And Jonas and Blake since they're also partners of people are on our "No Never" list.
no subject
Unfortunately, most of the people in this game are teenagers. [Which he is also not really chill with just offing. Welp.]
Or worse, children. If we're narrowing our list like that, there are only a few people we could target. [He frowns at Newt's book.] It would be rather suspicious if someone sees those marks.
no subject
[0 for no 1 for yes it's foolproof and definitely won't come back to bite him later.]
Put fake-out marks in your book if you're so worried. Not like mine, though. Then people might figure out we're working together.
[Not like that would be much of a leap, but still. And it's not like Hermann knows what ones and zeros are right now, anyway!!!]
So who can we target, then? Let's get a preliminary list going so we can check those people during the week.
no subject
Binary. [Sure he couldn't use binary if he wanted to, but he knows what it is.] You do realize some of these people are from our future, Newton. They might learn binary in primary school for all we know.
[This is not a sound idea!!! Whatever. He flips his own book open to scan for ages. It takes him an embarrassing amount of time to think through which numbers are... higher than others...]
Izaya and Lion are both adults. As are Noctis and Junko.
no subject
[He's gonna keep writing, dude!]
Hm... I like Izaya, but you're right. Don't know much about Noctis or Junko, though Junko seems, uh, kind of psycho... Mutsu and Seizaburo are technically adults, too. And I'm gonna add Chuuya to the "maybe" list even though Caren's 15. I'm betting if we have to do any killing, the Reapers will be up to stuff that week too, giving us two victims... Meaning the partners can make a pact before the execution.
[Probably?
He taps the marker against his chin.]
You think Ranpo's gonna be a problem?
no subject
[But they've been checking everything else, so he gives it a matter of time. Whatever, moving on.]
That... should be true, yes. Though if anyone else has the same idea that we do, it could be three. Which would be- [the word is evading him-] not an ideal number.
[He frowns.]
He hasn't been so far, but he is supposedly a detective. Should we add him to the list for that? Should we... add anyone who might pose a similar threat?
no subject
[As for the next bit:]
Not sure yet. Like, ultimately, we're still trying to suss out the Reapers. Ranpo could help with that. Problem is, we don't want anyone getting distracted and going after us instead of the actual threat, y'know? [Which doesn't really answer the question, he knows.] I guess we'll just play it by ear, see how things develop. Who knows? The Reapers might get to him first if he's a real threat, anyway.
no subject
Entirely possible. If I were a Reaper, I would want to remove anyone who could become problematic. Anyone too well-versed in forensics, for example. Or anyone too smart.
[He pauses.]
You don't think the Reapers will target us, do you?
